She understood she needed to break free from her mother\u2019s ambitions to discover who she truly was.<\/p>\n<p>Writing became her outlet. Her memoir,\u00a0<em>I\u2019m Glad My Mom Died<\/em>, was published in 2022 and quickly became a New York Times bestseller.<\/p>\n<p>In it, she revealed that until she was 17, her mother performed invasive vaginal and breast \u201cexams,\u201d claiming they were medical checks. She also recalled her mother doing nothing when she was served alcohol or pressured into bikini photos as a teenager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was the hardest part of the book for me to write,\u201d she admitted.<\/p>\n<p>Now in her 30s, she has created a life defined by independence rather than expectation.<\/p>\n<p>Her podcast explores themes of self-growth, mental health, and healing, and fans admire her not only for her talent but for the courage she has shown in transforming trauma into empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>That child star with the burdened smile is Jennette McCurdy.<\/p>\n<p>From actress to advocate, author, and creator, Jennette, now 33, has rebuilt her narrative \u2014 one grounded in resilience, honesty, and the freedom to finally live on her own terms.<\/p>\n<p>As she once reflected, \u201cI wish I could have shown my 20-year-old self me now\u2026 I would have had something to hope for. They eventually met and kept in contact for several months.<\/p>\n<p>Today, she says Hollywood \u201cexploited\u201d her childhood \u2014 and did so knowingly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy whole childhood and adolescence were very exploited,\u201d she told The New York Times. \u201cThere were people who meant well and didn\u2019t know better. And there were people who knew exactly what they were doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She recalls her mother staying silent when \u201cthe Creator\u201d offered her alcohol, and failing to intervene when she was pressured into posing in a bikini.
